Meditation

Meditation takes practice and some find it incredibly frustrating trying to quiet the mind to reach the level where work can be done! Often, every thoughts or things that have been bothering you stray into the calm centre disrupting your focus.

So how do you get to the state known as centred? There are many techniques suggested but I will describe three of the easier ones. Which ever one you choose to try, the main thing is to find a quiet, warm comfortable place where you will not be disturbed. Gentle music can help to free your mind. If you wish to focus on a particular problem or wish to contact either the God or Goddess or go to the Astral Plane, there are various oils that can either be used to anoint yourself or used in a burner and incenses burnt to channel your mind.

Exercise 1

This is a guided tour into your inner mind and is often used to find your spirit guide. You may find it useful to record this in advance or have someone you trust narrate it for you.

You are walking down a country track line by hedgerows. Beyond them are fields of corn that are gently waving in the breeze. The sky above you is deep blue and the sun warms your skin. Apart from the singing of birds you are alone. As you go a little further you see a style which you cross over and wander around the edge of the corn. As you reach the end of the field you can hear the gentle burbling of a stream. As it comes into view, you decide to follow it. Across the stream is the start of a lush forest. You continue to follow the stream until you reach a bridge. You cross the bridge and wander into the forest. You can hear the rustling of the breeze in the leaves which brings the warm rich scents of the forest to your nose. It is cool but not unpleasant as the sun filters down through the leaves. As you wander through the forest you look around you taking in your surroundings. Ahead of you is a clearing. When you reach it you find there is an old tree that has fallen long ago. It makes a perfect seat. Rest here and let your mind wander a while.

When you are ready to return you can either follow the track back or simply open your mind. In the clearing I found my spirit guide who lead me to a cottage. I have also gone from here into strange places or been given symbols or messages. This is also the place you go to start the past life regression described in that section

Exercise 2

Get comfortable and close your eyes. Breathe in and out slowly for the count of 10. When you are ready, visualize the golden light of the divine universe flowing into your body through your head and crown chakra down through your body and out into the ground. The light goes deeper and deeper rooting you to the earth so you are grounded. (This is Very important if you are not to get disorientated) You see the golden flower of your crown chakra open like a flower to the sun. The purple flower of the third eye opens allowing sight beyond site. The blue throat chakra flower opens followed by the green heart chakra and then the yellow solar plexus. Finally the orange flower of the navel chakra and the red flower of the base chakra open. With all chakras open you see rays of light the same colour as the flowers swirl and mingle around you. Allow yourself to flow with the colours and see where you go. When you are ready to resume your normal life, see the flowers close in reverse order and then breathe for 10 slowly. Give yourself a few minutes to get your bearings before getting up otherwise you might be a little dizzy!

Exercise 3

This is for those that work better with things they know. Get comfortable. Do the breathing exercise as above. Close your eyes. concentrate of the world around you what you feel, hear, smell, sense. Focus for a moment on the room beyond your closed eyes. Now pull inwards to the senses themselves. One by one look at the senses of sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing before moving inwards and away from them. It sometimes helps to see a control panel which you can switch off as you "shut down" that sense. Move further inwards through a doorway into the subconscious. You "see" things whizzing around you. These are your thought. Gently push them away and move further towards the quiet darkness you can see ahead of you. You go into the cocoon of darkness. You feel warm, relaxed and safe. Now relax and let your mind see. When you want to come out of this just allow your senses back in.

There are various other exercises that can be added if you find these don't work for you but give it a go!
