The building of an altar is an
important part of celebrating. It creates a focus in a room and provides a
useful space for invoking the power of the Goddess. Very nearly anything can be
used to create an altar. Altars can very simple or very complex and very much
reflects the type of person you are. The following are ideas for items to be
included in your altar. Not all the items need to be used as can be seen in our
suggestions for a Feng Shui Altar and a simple Altar.
Use any space i.e. shelf, table top, top of chest of drawers, box
Altar cloths of any colour - sized to suit your altar space
Incense holder - ceramic, metal, wooden
Smudge stick
Incense - any variety to suit your taste
Sacred salt in a glass or wooden bowl or other vessel
coloured glass dish
Candle of any colour to suit your intention e.g. green for healing, pink
for love
Large crystal - quartz, rose quartz, amethyst - any other to suit your
taste
Any tumbled or natural crystals
Chunk of wood
Statue to represent the goddess of your choice e.g. Isis, Athena
Crystals on coloured cord - type and colour according to your intention
Necklace including metal and/or crystal - type and colour according to
your intention
Represention of a spear e.g pencil with glittery plastic star on eraser
Athame
Spheres - crystal, wood
Egg - crystal, wood
Snake bracelet and any other jewellery
chalice - glass, metal, wood
wishbones or other charms
Tarot cards e.g. Queen of wands - High Priestess
Candle holders - glass, metal, wood
White beeswax "temple" candles
Bell - glass or metal
Magic wand - piece of wood tipped with crystal, wrapped with yarn and
decorated with feathers and beads
Jar of money
crayons/pencils of the colour to suite your intention
symbols - pentagram/fire/water - anything to suite your intention
Angel TM cards
Symbolic knife - cutlery, parring, pen knife
Obsidian Arrowhead
Feathers - usully Crow although other species can be used
